A photo a day for October - week 3
October is fair racing by. Week three of the challenge is done and dusted and my shots are duly presented below for your perusal.
I wonder if I’m being too samey with my choices? They’re all mostly of objects rather than experiences, people or panoramas, but maybe I’m over-analysing? Anyway, next week’s selection have briefs like ‘in your town’, ‘weather’ and most pleasingly ‘the view from here’ so maybe I’ll just photograph my blog for that one!
So here are my Week 3 shots. You can also take a look at Week 2 and Week 1 and see the whole lot snuggled together over on Pinterest.
October 15 ~ Dinnertime

October 16 ~ Something you wrote

October 17 ~ Fruit

October 18 ~ Made you smile today (it was one of those days when only vanilla vodka would do…)

October 19: Letters

October 20 ~ 4 o’clock (at 4pm we were embroiled in a mammoth fondant fancy baking session - more on that later in the week)

October 21 ~ Calm (my bathroom, the only spot of relative calm to be found in this houseful of boys)

On to week 4 now then! And don’t forget you can see the whole set for October building up on my Pinterest board.
A photo a day for October - week 2
Week two of the challenge is done so here are my photographs. I’ve been crazy busy this week so have had to sneak one archive shot in there, but all the rest were taken on the appropriate day using my iPhone and instagram. You can see my full set of shots building up on my Pinterest board.
Everyone participating in the challenge uploads their daily shots using #fmsphotoaday - there are over 300,000 photographs tagged with this hashtag - and whilst you only glimpse a fraction of the shots that have been uploaded at any one time, I’m really enjoying seeing how other people have interpreted the brief for that day.
October 8 ~ angle (I’m particularly pleased with this one. It was taken in quite low light which has lent it quite a grainy quality, which I think works nicely).

October 9 ~ red (isn’t this old Morris ace?)

October 10 ~ emotion (silly I know, but there you go…)

October 11 ~ something close-up

October 12 ~ on the table (a big green microphone on the table at BBC Radio Oxford, for my slot on the Kat Orman show on Friday - told you it was a busy week!)

October 13 ~ landscape (this is a shot I took last month, so it’s a bit of a cheat. I did see about 15 beautiful shots I could have taken for this one on Saturday and the sky was just as blue, but I was whizzing through the landscape in Dennis so unable to compose the perfect shot and already late for our lunch date, hence why this one is my submission for the 13th!)

October 14 ~ makes you laugh (yep, they sure do…)

On to week 3 now, goodness, how October is flying by.
A photo a day for October - week 1
I’m doing this photo a day challenge again this month. I last did one in May and quite enjoyed the discipline of having to think creatively about how to interpret the word or phrase for each day in an Instagram photograph.
I’ve created a Pinterest board for this month’s shots but without further ado, here are my photographs for week 1. All of them are taken with my iPhone Instagram app and I’ve played about with some of them using snapseed.
October 1 ~ where you stood

October 2 ~ lunchtime

October 3 ~ this happened today (I went to an Oxford Brookes Uni English Lit lecture with comedian Stewart Lee)

October 4 ~ what you read (Issue 02 of The Simple Things magazine - perfection in a beautifully-bound matte cover)

October 5 ~ shadow (I confess I delved into the archive for this one as I didn’t get round to thinking about the shot until 6pm, by which point I was contending with a flat, low cloud, virtually no sunlight and very little inspiration…)

October 6 ~ I’m thankful for… (unexpected reminders of treasured childhood memories)

October 7 ~ light

May 15th - 16th photo a day
And the challenge rolls on… We’re in to week three now and here are my latest two shots, taken in a bit of a rush in between getting us all ready for our Cornish adventure later this week. I am very much looking forward to our break - it will be sooo nice to breathe in the sea air and sit on the headland with my camera as the sun sets. The perfect way to start the summer season.
As ever, you can see the full set of May photographs on my Pinterest board for the challenge. I’m trying to vary the filters and effects I use in the challenge to build up a varied set - I really like the black & white one I used for this shot and haven’t used it again since so I will endeavour to fit it in somewhere this week!
May 4th - 7th photo a day
A mostly wet and stormy bank holiday weekend has left lots of time for tinkering with the cameras so here are the latest shots for this month’s Photo a Day for May challenge. The themes were:
May 4th: fun!
May 5th: bird
May 6th: you
May 7th: someone that inspires you.
I’ve set up a Pinterest board for the challenge too so whizz on over there if you want to see the full set as it builds up.
Rolling on to this week’s set of images now - there are some good ones in there so time to get my creative brain working…
That’s pinteresting…
This week has mostly been about getting proofs to printers and the like, but in the little bit of downtime I’ve had, I’ve been playing about with Pinterest and setting up some boards of stuff I like.
Pinterest is gathering a bit of momentum now and I have to confess, it is a bit addictive. On the negative side, it could be seen as a mass exercise in materialistic obsessive consumption (“I want this, and this and this…”), but on the positive side, it is a really easy way to put together a bunch of images and links from the web that you like and arrange them in virtual noticeboards that inspire you, look nice and pretty and give other people a bit of an insight into the stuff you like and do.
I’ve added a Pinterest link to my blog so check it out!
